A quality, large, and very hollow quartz lined Keokuk, Iowa area geode pair and is among the best finds of the 2010 autumn mining season. The majority of the interior is a clear to light smoky quartz but some orange iron coloring is found on one side of each half. Very nice large cabinet combination specimen from the Elmwood Mine! Lustrous, large (up to 3cm or 1.2 inches on edge) sphalerites make up a larger portion of the specimen but no less than three creamy barite clusters and a couple fluorites are also found which add some color and contrast that is typical of Elmwood. Brown calcite with a somewhat waxy luster lined Keokuk geode half with secondary clear/white calcite growths and a larger nearly 2 inch (5 cm) long pink calcite crystal that also contains some micro pyrite crystals.
