#BG-207 - Galena and Quartz

Borieva Mine, Madan Deposit, southern Rhodope Mountains, Bulgaria

10 x 7 x 2 cm (3.9 x 2.7 x 0.8 inches) - $60.00

This specimen is composed of skeletal galenas on a quartz-coated matrix.  Several views of the specimen (and especially of the galena) are shown here.  These are interesting specimens - the galenas are thought to be like this due to fluid inclusions that have now escaped, leaving these dimpled or "hollowed-out" crystals of galena.  No damage besides a little bit of contact to the very back and base of the galena cluster - this is not seen when the specimen is displayed as shown in the top right photograph.  A fine example of this galena variety from Bulgaria!
