Cathedral #78 - A very nice geode. This particular specimen has your typical agate banding in the rind and is lined with medium to lower end deep amethyst. The photos actually show the geode quite well on my computer here. The interesting thing about this geode are the numerous small orange calcites scattered throughout the cavity, most are concentrated at the base, where the largest grouping is about 2 cm (a little less than an inch) across. The largest cluster and a few others are easily seen in the overall photo so they won't go unnoticed. The orange on the purple is quite appealing in this particular sample. The geode has a cavity depth of about 6 inches from front of the opening to the back wall of amethyst.
