Mineral Specimen - E-244

Calcite  - Cumberland Mine, Elmwood District, Smith Co., Tennessee

7.5 x 3 cm, 10 cm tall (2.9 x 1.2 inches, 3.9 inches tall) - $30

A partial orange calcite crystal from the Cumberland Mine.  The tip or upper termination of the crystal is virtually complete except for a very small cleave on one side of the crystal - this is seen in the bottom left photograph.  A few rubs are also found, evidenced by the white areas in the photographs.  Color is close to accurate in the upper photograph.  Likely collected from the major find at the mine in May or June of 2001, but this cannot be confirmed but the color is VERY reminiscent of specimens from that find.  More recent mining for sure in the 2001-2003 timeframe.
