#Keokuk Pair 37 - Quartz geode with Calcite - each half measures approximately 3.75 x 3.25 inches.  Price is $12.00 for the pair.

This geode is lined with clear quartz and contains numerous secondary crystals of pink calcite overgrown with mainly clear calcite.  A "pagoda" calcite crystal is found in the right half (see the far left and two far right photos).  Some contacting to calcite along the edge is present as one would expect but no damage is found to the pagoda crystal except for some minor quartz that was attached to the crystal.

#Keokuk Pair 52 - Quartz Geode with Calcite - the left half measures approximately 3 x 2 inches.  Geode was collected in Hancock County, Illinois.  Price is $6.00 for the pair.

Clear quartz lined geode with a single calcite in the main part.  The calcite is approximately 1/2 to 3/4 inch across and is undamaged.  Geode was opened by hand (hammer/chisel) so is not a perfect half and half geode but given the position of the calcite, it was probably fortunate the geode was opened this way.

#Keokuk Pair 59 - Quartz (var. "Dewdrop Diamond") with Calcite Geode - each half measures approximately 2 3/4 x 2 3/4 inches.  Geode was collected in Clark County, Missouri.  Price is $25.00.

Nice example of a clear "dewdrop diamond" Keokuk area geode.  The right half also has a secondary calcite (was right along the edge of the geode so is cleaved).  The dewdrops are very clear with few to no smoky quartz coloring.

#Keokuk Pair 61 - Quartz with Ferroan Dolomite Geode - geode was collected years ago (in the 1970s) from Crystal Glen Creek south of Hamilton, in Hancock County, Illinois.  Each half measures approximately 2 1/2 x 1 3/4 inches.  Price is $4.00.

Very nice clear quartz lined geode pair with numerous light tan ferroan dolomite crystals in both halves.

#Keokuk Pair 63 - Calcite with secondary Calcite and Kaolinite Geode - geode was collected in Clark County, Missouri - each half measures approximately 5 1/4 x 4 1/2 inches.  Price is $15.00 for the pair.

Calcite lined geode with some secondary light pink calcite clusters with micro pyrites on the secondary pink calcite growths.  A few of these growths were along the edge of the geode when opened so are cleaved but some are down in the cavity and are undamaged.  Some kaolinite (white clay mineral) is also present in the geode in a few places.

#Keokuk Pair 64 - Quartz lined Geode with Ferroan Dolomite and Barite - geode was collected in Hancock County, Illinois in late 2006 - each half measures approximately 3.5 x 3.25 inches with the left half being the bulk of the geode and the right half the lid.  Price is $8.00 for the pair.

Quartz lined geode with an additional quartz regrowth in the left half and additional ferroan dolomite in both halves and also a cluster of tabular blue barites in the right half.  The geode came from the uppermost layer in the lower Warsaw Formation, and this layer is typically where the most variety of mineral inclusions is located throughout the Keokuk area. However, this layer is often subject to weathering and the geodes are not always the best formed.  Nonetheless, this is a common association from this location.  The barite cluster is approximately 6 millimeters across.  There has been discussion lately about these extremely weathered ferroan dolomite crystals actually being ankerite - until sound and reviewed scientifically-based evidenc% suggests otherwise, ankerite has NOT been confirmed in Keokuk area 'eodes because of a lack of iron content in the crystals.  This is a nice geode showing mineral paragenesi3 for Keokuk geodes.

#Keokuk Pair 70 - Quartz (var. Chalcedony) lined Geode with Calcite, Kaolinite - geode was collected in 2006 in Hancock County, Illinois - each half measures approximately 4.25 x 4.25 inches - price is $8.00 for the pair.

Blue grey bubbly chalcedony lined geode pair with a few crystals of calcite, some of which have ingested kaolinite.  The closeup pictures show numerous "cracks" in the chalcedony but I assure you that these are "historical" cracks and the outside skin has no evidence of cracking whatsoever.  This is a rather common look to many thinner-skinned chalcedony geodes for some reason.  Just a typical example of a chalcedony geode with calcite included from the Keokuk area.

#Keokuk Pair 76 - Quartz var. "Dewdrop Diamond" Geode with Calcite - geode was collected in Clark County, Missouri.  Each half measures approximately 3 x 2.75 inches.  Price for the pair is $30.00.

Good example of the "dewdrop" geode variety from the Keokuk area.  The mineral paragenesis of these geodes is quite interesting given the apparent multiple growths that occurred to end up with this specimen.  Numerous light to medium smoky quartzoid crystals are heavily scattered about the white chalcedony lining and a single undamaged calcite is present in the right half.  Nearly all dewdrops from this location have a calcite or grouping of calcites - it is the luck of the draw to open the geodes correctly to avoid the calcite.  A pyrite cluster is also on the outside skin.

#Keokuk Pair 77 - Quartz var. "Dewdrop Diamond" Geode with Calcite - geode was collected in Clark County, Missouri.  Each half measures 3.5 x 2.5 inches.  Price for the pair is $40.00. sold

Good example of a dewdrop geode from the Keokuk area.  Very hollow open cavity lined with white chalcedony followed by numerous clear quartzoid crystals heavily coating the entire geode.  Slightly above average size for a dewdrop from this locality - although this one is the exception rather than the norm as there is no calcite in this geode.  Excellent dewdrop example.

#Keokuk Pair 78 - Quartz lined Geode with secondary Brown Calcite - geode was collected in Hancock County, Illinois.  Each half measures approximately 2 x 1.5 inches.  Price for the pair is $8.00.

Sparkly quartz lined geode with secondary brown calcite crystals.  The brown calcites are very well formed and sharp and show good crystal structure as they are more isolated versus lining the entire geode as is usually seen for geodes with brown calcite from the Keokuk area.  Some minor contacting to some brown calcites in the right half as can be seen in the photos but nothing major.  Pyrite is also present on the outside skin.

#Keokuk Pair 79 - Quartz lined Geode with secondary Marcasite crystals - geode was collected in Hancock County, Illinois (probably from Crystal Glen Creek given the nature of the geode).  Each half measures approximately 3.5 inches in diameter.  Price for the pair is $10.00.

Nice Keokuk geode pair with the typical quartz and light iron coloring caused by weathering iron minerals.  The main draw to this geode, however, is the marcasite crystals found in the right half along the edge of the half (see 2nd from right closeup).  Excellent marcasite Keokuk geode.

#Keokuk Pair 81 - Quartz var. "Dewdrop Diamond" Keokuk geode with secondary Calcite - geode was collected in Clark County, Missouri - each half measures approximately 3.25 x 3 inches.  Price for the pair is $30.00.

Dewdrop Keokuk geode with a scattering of concentrated clear quartzoid crystals on the white chalcedony lining.  A single light tan calcite is present in the back of the larger half.  This one is priced slightly lower than others on this page due to the thicker wall, less coverage of quartzoid crystals, and less than optimal location of the calcite.  Still, a nice dewdrop example from the Keokuk area.

#Keokuk Pair 82 - Quartz lined Geode with Pink Calcite - geode was collected on private property near Keokuk, Iowa - each half measures approximately 3.9 x 3.75 inches.  Price for the pair is $12.00.

Clear quartz lined Keokuk geode pair with a calcite crystal cluster in the right half.  The cluster features the paragenesis that is the rule for Keokuk geodes - light brown (minor) then pink followed by clear calcite overgrowths.  A small part of the cluster was contacted or cleaved when the geode was opened - remnants remain in the left half.  The cleaved area is not a big detraction but is present nonetheless.

#Keokuk Pair 85 - Double Brown Calcite Geode with secondary clear Calcite - geode was collected on private property near Keokuk, Iowa - each half measures approximately 3 x 2 inches.  Price for the pair is $15.00. sold

Double Keokuk geode - both sections contain brown calcite with the left side being completely solid brown calcite and the right side being hollow and also containing secondary clear calcite crystals.  Excellent example of independence of each individual geode from this area - despite the two geodes likely being right next to one another during crystal growth, one geode took on more solution than the other even though the solution in both was clearly the same or very similar in nature.

#Keokuk Pair 86 - Calcite lined Geode with secondary Sphalerite and Pink Calcite - geode was collected on private property near Keokuk, Iowa - each half measures approximately 2 x 1.75 inches.  Price for the pair is $5.00.

Calcite lined Keokuk geode pair with secondary Sphalerite and Pink Calcite growths.  There are two main calcite growths with a dominant crystal in each half.  The sphalerite was cleaved almost right down the middle with part of the crystal in each half.  The calcites are both cleaved along the edge of the geode.  Given the damage to all of the major crystals, this is mainly just a good reference calcite/sphalerite geode thus the price.

#Keokuk Pair 89 - Quartz lined Geode with secondary Calcite - geode was collected on private property near Keokuk, Iowa - each half measures approximately 3.50 x 3.25 inches.  Price for the pair is $10.00.

Quartz lined Keokuk geode that is heavy in secondary small calcites.  At quick glance it looks like the geode is actually a calcite lined geode because there are so many calcites on the quartz.  A larger clear over light pink calcite cluster is also found near the edge of the left half - this cluster is undamaged.  Nice quartz/calcite Keokuk geode.

#Keokuk Pair 91 - Quartz lined Geode with secondary ferroan Dolomite, Quartz, Calcite, and Barite - geode was collected in Hancock County, Illinois in 2007 - each half measures approximately 3.10 x 2.80 inches.  Price for the pair is $10.00.

Multi-mineral Keokuk geode that had almost too much going on in it during crystal growth.  The geode is lined with fine quartz crystals and then secondary/tertiary brown ferroan dolomite, quartz, calcite, and a light blue tabular barite crystal cluster that is thankfully more isolated on the quartz lining and in the lid of the geode.  The barite cluster is approximately 1 cm (0.4 inches) across (see second from right closeup photo).  This is a very common variety of geode from the particular location this geode came from - the hope is that the barite isolates itself and that the break is right.  Excellent barite Keokuk geode - just lacking some aesthetic quality to the overall presentation.

____________________________________________________________________________________

#Keokuk Pair 92 - Quartz (var. Chalcedony) lined Geode with secondary Marcasite - geode was collected in Hancock County, Illinois in 2007 - each half measures approximately 5.0 x 4.80 inches.  Price for the pair is $10.00. sold

Typical chalcedony lined geode with some banding in the shell especially at the left side of each half as shown in the pictures.  Numerous small marcasite crystals are scattered about the pair - see second from right closeup.  The marcasites are best seen under at least a 10x loupe but some are large enough to see their structure without magnification.  Typical association of minerals from this location.

____________________________________________________________________________________

#Keokuk Pair 93 - Quartz lined Geode with white banded Chalcedony - geode was collected in Hancock County, Illinois in 2007 - each half measures approximately 3 x 3 inches.  Price for the pair is $10.00.

Typical but aesthetic white banded quartz geode from this location.  There are many subsequent quartz growths in this geode - the initial chalcedony lining followed by quartz, then white chalcedony, then quartz again.  A few pyrites are also scattered about the geode.

____________________________________________________________________________________

#Keokuk Pair 94 - Quartz (var. Chalcedony) lined Geode with Marcasite secondaries - geode was collected in Hancock County, Illinois in 2007 - each half measures approximately 4.25 x 4 inches.  Price for the pair is $8.00.

Typical quartz var. chalcedony lined geode with several secondary marcasite crystals.  The marcasites are not particularly large (see the second from right closeup) but are well-formed and do add a little bit to this otherwise plain chalcedony geode.  Nice example of this combination of minerals in Keokuk geodes.  Eligible for flat rate Priority mail shipping if applicable to your location based on the weight.

#Keokuk Pair 95 - Quartz (var. Chalcedony) lined Geode with Kaolinite, Calcite - geode was collected in Hancock County, Illinois in 2007 - each half measures approximately 3.0 x 2.60 inches.  Price for the pair is $6.00.

Typical quartz var. chalcedony lined Keokuk geode pair with a pocket of kaolinite along with a few calcite crystals right along the edge of the half.  This is a good reference kaolinite Keokuk geode - most of the time the kaolinite is just a powder in the geode but in this pair it is in an isolated area that actually makes it a little more appealing than most geodes that have kaolinite.

____________________________________________________________________________________

#Keokuk Pair 96 - Quartz lined double Geode with secondary Quartz, ferroan Dolomite, Calcite, and Barite - geode was collected in Hancock County, Illinois in 2007 - the main cavity measures approximately 3.50 x 2.0 inches with an un-opened (but likely solid) geode attached.  Price for the pair is $6.00.

Quartz lined double-celled Keokuk geode with secondary and/or tertiary quartz, calcite, ferroan dolomite, and a single tabby barite in the larger half.  The barite (see right closeup) is undamaged and measures approximately 1 cm (0.4 inches) across.  Just a good reference barite and other mineral geode - nothing fancy about the geode itself but a good multi-mineral study or collector specimen.  A little bit of the skin of the opened section is missing but nothing that detracts too much from the overall specimen.  The main feature is the barite and other minerals.

#Keokuk Pair 97 - Quartz (var. Chalcedony) lined Geode with Marcasite and Kaolinite - geode was collected in Hancock County, Illinois in 2007 - each half measures approximately 2.9 x 2.6 inches.  Price for the pair is $8.00. sold

Excellent example of marcasite in a Keokuk geode.  The geode is lined with bubbly quartz var. chalcedony and numerous golden marcasites are found throughout both halves.  Mind you, these marcasites are only up to perhaps 4-5mm for each crystal but the coverage is very high and some excellent examples of the reticulated crystal habit are present in this geode (see the 2nd and 3rd closeup photos from right for crystal definition).  Some white kaolinite is present in the left half.  Excellent but yet very common geode variety from this location.  SHIPPING NOTE:  It is very likely that some marcasites will become dislodged during shipping - this one will be shipped at your own risk as any insurance will not cover loosened marcasite crystals.  We can also deliver to a show in your area if you'd prefer.

#Keokuk Pair 98 - Light smoky Quartz Geode with banded white Chalcedony and minor Marcasite - geode was collected in Hancock County, Illinois in 2007 - each half measures approximately 3.25 x 2.90 inches.  Price for the pair is $12.00. sold

Excellent example of a common geode variety from this location and illustrates multiple growth stages within the geode over time.  The final quartz lining has a light to medium smoky quartz coloring that I think is a little darker in person than depicted in the pictures.  There are also a few scattered weathering pyrites throughout the pair - the light orange coloring especially in the left half is the result of some marcasites that have completely weathered.  Aesthetic geode from this location.

#Keokuk Pair 99 - Quartz lined Geode with white banded Chalcedony and Pyrite - geode was collected in Hancock County, Illinois in 2007 - each half measures approximately 3.40 x 3 inches.  Price for the pair is $12.00.

Aesthetic variety of the white banded chalcedony followed by clear quartz geode variety from this location.  The final layer of quartz is especially pure with no additional coloring from weathered minerals and the crystals are very uniform throughout.  A light peppering of pyrites is also present throughout both halves.  Especially clean for a geode from this location.  Good collector quality specimen.

#Keokuk Pair 100 - Quartz lined Geode with white banded Chalcedony - geode was collected in Hancock County, Illinois in 2007 - each half measures approximately 3.40 x 3 inches.  Price for the pair is $10.00.

Typical white banded chalcedony geode with the final quartz lining.  Just a few scattered pyrites are also found in the geode as well.

____________________________________________________________________________________

#Keokuk Pair 101 - Quartz (var. Chalcedony) lined Geode with secondary Calcite - geode was collected in Hancock County, Illinois in 2007 - each half measures approximately 2.75 x 2.4 inches.  Price for the pair is $7.00.

A typical chalcedony lined geode pair, but the left half has a few calcites including a dominant 2.5 cm (1 inch) flattened rhomb in the back.  The main rhomb is undamaged - the calcite right on the edge was slightly nicked upon opening.  A really smaller example of calcite on chalcedony in a Keokuk geode.

____________________________________________________________________________________

#Keokuk Pair 102 - Quartz (var. Chalcedony) lined Geode - geode was collected in Hancock County, Illinois in 2007 - each half measures approximately 6.2 x 5.5 inches.  Price for the pair is $15.00.

Nice example of a chalcedony lined Keokuk geode.  There is not much that the pictures don't convey that I need to tell about here - there is good banding to some areas in the shell indicating successive layers of chalcedony.  This geode is eligible for flat rate Priority mail shipping - make sure to choose the Priority Mail Flat Rate Box option when checking out if you do not have multiple other specimens you are ordering that could not fit into the box.  Contact us if you have questions concerning shipping if buying other specimens.

#Keokuk Pair 103 - Quartz lined Geode with Sphalerite, Smithsonite?, ferroan Dolomite, Kaolinite, Calcite, and Barite - geode was collected in Hancock County, Illinois in 2007 - each half measures approximately 3.5 x 3.5 inches.  Price for the pair is $10.00.

Multi-mineral Keokuk geode with the primary quartz lining followed by several additional minerals including secondary quartz and numerous other growths including sphalerite (black crystal) with possible associated smithsonite? (tannish brown crusty mineral on/near sphalerite), ferroan dolomite, calcite, kaolinite, and a couple of blue tabby barites.  Definitely not the most aesthetic geode you've ever seen but from a mineral perspective and study of mineral paragenesis in Keokuk geodes this is a knockout.  The barites are up to 1 cm (0.4 inches) across with the main zinc being approximately 1.5 inches across.  This is actually a pretty common geode from the very upper layer at this location but the minerals do not always present themselves in a way that the specimen is worth keeping.

#Keokuk Pair 104 - Quartz (var. Chalcedony) lined Geode - geode was collected in Hancock County, Illinois in 2007 - each half measures approximately 5.5 x 4.8 inches.  Price for the pair is $10.00.

Typical chalcedony lined Keokuk geode pair.  The orange coloring in the right half is due to weathered pyrite and/or marcasite.  Eligible for flat rate Priority mail shipping if applicable to your destination.
