Quartz lined Keokuk geode pair with a mix of clear and iron coated quartz complete with numerous clusters of calcite crystals. The orange iron coating provides and iridescence to both the quartz and calcite where present and adds a nice touch of color to both the lining and the secondary crystals. Calcite clusters between 1 and 3 inches in length are present throughout the geode. The largest cluster is present in the right half in the back and is nearly 3 inches long! An additional calcite cluster is present at the edge of the same half, completely undamaged. Some contacting to one cluster is seen in both halves at the left side but overall this is a minimal issue given the size of the crystals involved. A quality Keokuk geode pair of respectable size. Price for the pair is $100.00. |
Clear quartz lined Keokuk geode pair with numerous prismatic barrel calcite crystals in both halves. A heavier concentration of calcites is present in the right half with the crystals ranging in size from a fifth of an inch up to three quarters of an inch long. One crystal was slightly nicked on its edge along the edge of each half but the main crystals are complete and damage free. Price for the pair is $15.00.

Clear quartz lined Keokuk geode pair with a single, 1.25 x 1.50 inch prismatic barrel calcite in one half and numerous pyrites of varying habits throughout the bottom of both halves. The calcite is the classic barrel shape for the Keokuk area featuring the prism with the rhombohedral termination. The crystal is undamaged besides the typical internal fracturing due to the crystal size - evident in the closeup photos. Numerous pyrites of the capillary, filiform, and some cubic habits are present throughout the bottom part of the geode. A quality Keokuk geode pair. Price for the pair is $100.00.
Nice medium sized Keokuk geode pair with a multitude of additional minerals besides the light smoky/brown quartz lining. A single 1.25 inch barrel calcite is present in the right half. Also in the right half is a tabular light yellow barite in the bottom of the half and throughout the entire half are literally hundreds of filiform pyrite crystals (see middle photos on bottom row). The filiform pyrite crystals are up to 2mm in length and while somewhat small, the coverage more than makes up for it. Nice large hand sized matching Keokuk geode pair. $50.00 for the pair.
#KGIA 496 - Quartz lined Geode with Calcite and minor pyrite - each half measures approximately 3.50 x 3.50 inches. Price for the pair is $15.00. |
#KGIA 497 - Quartz lined Geode with Calcite and minor pyrite - each half measures approximately 3.70 x 3.25 inches. Price for the matching pair is $12.00. |
Aesthetic Keokuk geode pair lined with mostly clear quartz although some iron deposits are present in especially one half. A single nearly 1 inch tall prismatic barrel calcite is perched near the edge of the left half. The only damage to this crystal is just a very small portion of the front bottom of the crystal was slightly cleaved when the geode was opened but this is hardly noticeable. The termination is complete and sharp. Price for the matching pair is $15.00.
Quartz lined Keokuk geode pair with a couple of calcites in the right half and a portion of another in the left half. The calcites in the right half each appear to be a different habit - the crystal in the back (bottom left close-up) is a rhombohedral growth and the crystal nearer to the edge is prismatic in habit. Neither crystal shows any damage. A few pyrites are present in the geode as well. Price for the matching pair is $12.00.
#KGIA 19: Quartz Geode with secondary Calcite and Pyrite (both on the quartz and as inclusions in the calcites) - each half measures approximately 4.25 x 4 inches. Price for the pair is $25.00. |
#KGIA 24: Quartz Geode with secondary Barite - each half measures approximately 7.5 x 5.5 inches. Price for the pair is $40.00. |
Excellent calcite Keokuk geode! The geode is lined with clear quartz and a wide scattering of pyrites. There are numerous barrel calcites throughout the geode, especially in the left half. The calcites at the base are pink with additional mainly clear to very light pink growths on top. Some of the calcites also have pyrites as inclusions. The main calcite crystal is approximately 1.5 inches long and undamaged besides the very bottom termination that has a little bit of an internal fracture as it was very near the edge of the geode where opened. Contacting is present to the calcite at the edge of the geode but this was unavoidable. Despite the contacting to the calcite, this is still a very quality Keokuk geode given the sheer number and arrangement of the calcites. Price for the pair is $25.00.
Quartz lined Keokuk geode pair with a light hint of orange color due to weathered pyrite. A few pyrites are scattered about but most have weathered down to the orange color in the geode. In the middle of the right half are two yellow and white tabular barite crystals. The crystals individually measure approximately 5 - 6 millimeters across. This is a good display geode without the barite but the barite adds a little more to the geode. Price for the pair is $40.00.
#Keokuk Pair 63 - Calcite with secondary Calcite and Kaolinite Geode - geode was collected in Clark County, Missouri - each half measures approximately 5 1/4 x 4 1/2 inches. Price is $15.00 for the pair. |
#Keokuk Pair 64 - Quartz lined Geode with Ferroan Dolomite and Barite - geode was collected at Gary Jacob's geode mine south of Hamilton, Hancock County, Illinois in late 2006 - each half measures approximately 3.5 x 3.25 inches with the left half being the bulk of the geode and the right half the lid. Price is $8.00 for the pair. |
Calcite lined geode with some secondary light pink calcite clusters with micro pyrites on the secondary pink calcite growths. A few of these growths were along the edge of the geode when opened so are cleaved but some are down in the cavity and are undamaged. Some kaolinite (white clay mineral) is also present in the geode in a few places.
Quartz lined geode with an additional quartz regrowth in the left half and additional ferroan dolomite in both halves and also a cluster of tabular blue barites in the right half. The geode came from the uppermost layer in the lower Warsaw Formation, and this layer is typically where the most variety of mineral inclusions is located throughout the Keokuk area. However, this layer is often subject to weathering and the geodes are not always the best formed. Nonetheless, this is a common association from this location. The barite cluster is approximately 6 millimeters across. There has been discussion lately about these extremely weathered ferroan dolomite crystals actually being ankerite - until sound and reviewed scientifically-based evidence suggests otherwise, ankerite has NOT been confirmed in Keokuk area geodes because of a lack of iron content in the crystals. This is a nice geode showing mineral paragenesis for Keokuk geodes.

#Keokuk Pair 178 - Brown Calcite Geode with Pink Calcite and attached Quartz Geode - one half of the brown calcite geode is approximately 2.50 x 2.25 inches. Price for the complete three piece set is $30.00. |
#Keokuk Pair 180 - Brown Calcite Geode with Pink Calcite secondary, also connected Quartz Geode - each half measures approximately 2 7/8 inches by 2 1/8 inches. Price for the matching pair is $20.00. |
Complete three piece geode specimen featuring two main geode cavities - the larger cavity contains brown calcite with secondary pink and clear calcites while the smaller geode has a sparkling clear quartz lining along with some secondary calcites. The brown calcite is faintly iridescent bronze but the pink calcite secondary growth is the main noticeable feature. The pink calcite growth was just slightly nicked when the geode was opened. The quartz geode illustrates the somewhat interesting mineral segregation properties of Keokuk geodes as these two geodes presumably formed under similar conditions but yet possess different interiors. Price for the three piece complete set is $30.00. sold
Double chambered Keokuk geode pair with one chamber containing lightly iridescent bronze and purple brown calcite with a pink calcite secondary growth as well as smaller clear calcite crystals. The other chamber contains quartz with some secondary calcite. The secondary pink calcite cluster is undamaged and complete. Nice example of this variety of Keokuk geode. Price for the matching pair is $20.00. sold
#Keokuk Pair 181 - Brown Calcite Geode with secondary Calcite - each half measures approximately 2.25 x 2 inches. Price for the pair is $15.00. |
#Keokuk Pair 37 - Quartz geode with Calcite - each half measures approximately 3.75 x 3.25 inches. Price is $12.00 for the pair. |
Iridescent purple brown calcite lined Keokuk geode pair with numerous clear to white secondary calcite crystals. Just a few of the secondary clear/white crystals are slightly rubbed along the edge of each half. The right half also has a larger brown calcite crystal that exhibits good brown/purple iridescence (bottom left closeup picture). Price for the matching pair is $15.00. sold
This geode is lined with clear quartz and contains numerous secondary crystals of pink calcite overgrown with mainly clear calcite. A "pagoda" calcite crystal is found in the right half (see the far left and two far right photos). Some contacting to calcite along the edge is present as one would expect but no damage is found to the pagoda crystal except for some minor quartz that was attached to the crystal.
#Keokuk Pair 182: Brown Calcite Geode with secondary Calcite - each half measures approximately 3 x 2.75 inches. Price for the matching pair is $40.00. |
#KGIA 178: Quartz lined Keokuk geode with secondary Calcite - each half measures approximately 4 x 3 inches. Price for the pair is $30.00. |
Highly iridescent brown calcite lined Keokuk geode with numerous secondary/tertiary calcite growths. The iridescence is primarily greenish bronze as the photos show but some purple is also seen in places depending on how the geode is held in the light. A pink calcite crystal was broken right through when the geode was opened and this does detract from the overall geode appearance. Larger iridescent brown calcite crystals are present in both halves along with smaller clear/white calcite crystals. Some brown calcite crystals have micro pyrites on their crystal faces. Price for the matching pair is $40.00. sold |
Quartz lined Keokuk geode pair with secondary pyrites and one single, undamaged 1.5 inch barrel calcite in the left half. The geode was opened in the right location to maximize both cavity depth for display and also to accentuate the calcite in the left cavity. Nice Keokuk geode pair. Price for the matching pair is $30.00.
#Keokuk Pair 86 - Calcite lined Geode with secondary Sphalerite and Pink Calcite - geode was collected on private property near Keokuk, Iowa - each half measures approximately 2 x 1.75 inches. Price for the pair is $5.00. |
#Keokuk Pair 89 - Quartz lined Geode with secondary Calcite - geode was collected on private property near Keokuk, Iowa - each half measures approximately 3.50 x 3.25 inches. Price for the pair is $10.00. |
Calcite lined Keokuk geode pair with secondary Sphalerite and Pink Calcite growths. There are two main calcite growths with a dominant crystal in each half. The sphalerite was cleaved almost right down the middle with part of the crystal in each half. The calcites are both cleaved along the edge of the geode. Given the damage to all of the major crystals, this is mainly just a good reference calcite/sphalerite geode thus the price.
Quartz lined Keokuk geode that is heavy in secondary small calcites. At quick glance it looks like the geode is actually a calcite lined geode because there are so many calcites on the quartz. A larger clear over light pink calcite cluster is also found near the edge of the left half - this cluster is undamaged. Nice quartz/calcite Keokuk geode.
#Keokuk Pair 183: Brown Calcite Geode with secondary Calcite - each half measures approximately 2.50 x 1 5/8 inches. Price for the pair is $20.00. |
#KGIA 517: Quartz Geode with Calcite, Barite, and Pyrite - each half measures approximately 4.5 x 3.45 inches. Price for the pair is $25.00. |
Rich blue/purple iridescent brown calcite lined Keokuk geode pair with small clear secondary calcite crystals as well. The iridescent color is really quite pronounced in this geode and even though it is not a very big geode, the quality is there. Price for the matching pair is $20.00. sold |
Clear sparkling quartz lined Keokuk geode pair complete with numerous secondary calcite crystals, especially in the left half. A small double tabular yellow barite cluster is also present in the right half along with a speckling of small pyrite crystals. Some small calcites were cleaved as one would expect along the edge of each half but the main calcite cluster (that has a slight pink core) is complete in the back of the left half. Quality Keokuk geode with good presentation. Price for the matching pair is $25.00.
#KGIA 378: Quartz lined Geode with Pyrite on Calcite, Barite - each half measures approximately 4.40 x 3.25 inches. Price for the pair is $30.00. |
#KGIA 380: Quartz lined Geode with Pyrite in/on Calcite - each half measures approximately 7.50 x 7.50 inches. Price for the pair is $60.00. |
Multi-mineral Keokuk geode pair featuring the typical quartz lining with a nearly 2 inch long stack of calcite crystals in the left half. Upon the calcite are numerous crystals of micro to very small pyrite crystals - most are capillary in nature but there are some cubic crystals as well. On the back of the calcite further into the cavity is a small yellow tabular barite crystal as well. The geode was opened optimally - there is no damage to the calcite and it is right at the edge of the half but just far enough in that there is no damage and the halves can be put back together safely. Price for the matching pair is $30.00.
Very neat Keokuk geode pair! The geode is lined with very light to clear smoky quartz and the occasional pyrite speckling here and there. The most interesting feature of the geode is a calcite cluster in the left half that has pyrites both in and protruding from the calcite cluster! The photos show the crystal quite well (click on the images to make them larger for better view). The edge of the calcite was cleaved when the geode was opened exposing some of the pink core. Good Keokuk geode illustrating mineral paragenesis in these geodes but also aesthetic and decent sized. Price for the pair is $60.00.
#Keokuk Pair 96 - Quartz lined double Geode with secondary Quartz, ferroan Dolomite, Calcite, and Barite - geode was collected at Gary Jacob's geode mine south of Hamilton, Hancock County, Illinois in 2007 - the main cavity measures approximately 3.50 x 2.0 inches with an un-opened (but likely solid) geode attached. Price for the pair is $6.00. |
#Keokuk Pair 52 - Quartz Geode with Calcite - the left half measures approximately 3 x 2 inches. Geode was collected in Hancock County, Illinois. Price is $6.00 for the pair. |
Quartz lined double-celled Keokuk geode with secondary and/or tertiary quartz, calcite, ferroan dolomite, and a single tabby barite in the larger half. The barite (see right closeup) is undamaged and measures approximately 1 cm (0.4 inches) across. Just a good reference barite and other mineral geode - nothing fancy about the geode itself but a good multi-mineral study or collector specimen. A little bit of the skin of the opened section is missing but nothing that detracts too much from the overall specimen. The main feature is the barite and other minerals.
Clear quartz lined geode with a single calcite in the main part. The calcite is approximately 1/2 to 3/4 inch across and is undamaged. Geode was opened by hand (hammer/chisel) so is not a perfect half and half geode but given the position of the calcite, it was probably fortunate the geode was opened this way.
#KGIA 518: Quartz Geode with secondary Pyrite, Goethite, Calcite - each half measures approximately 4 x 4 inches. Price for the pair is $25.00. |
#KGIA 71: Quartz lined Geode with Calcite & Pyrite - each half measures approximately 4.50 x 3.75 inches. Price for the pair is $25.00. |
Clear quartz lined Keokuk geode pair with secondary pyrites concentrated in one half and black goethite blades in the other half. A small calcite is also present in the half that contains the goethite crystals. Some of the pyrite crystals are of the filiform habit, meaning there are right angle growths in the capillary habit indicating successive growths over time. Interesting mineralization in this Keokuk geode. Price for the pair is $25.00.
Very hollow, open Keokuk geode pair lined with clear quartz. There are also numerous but widely scattered pyrites throughout both halves and one single nearly 2 inch long calcite in the left half. The calcite is un-damaged. A few small rhombohedral calcites also adorn the left half. Price for the matching pair is $25.00. sold |
