Quartz (var. Amethyst) with Siderite and a few Chalcopyrites - Gheturi Mine, Turt, Satu Mare, Maramures Co., Romania: A siderite and chalcopyrite base is host to a grouping of several amethyst crystals. A few notable pockets of amethysts were found in the Turt Mine during production along with the galenas, calcites, and siderites. The crystals are anywhere from 1.5 to 3 cm (0.6 to 1.2 inches) in length, with the largest crystal in the front just over 3 cm (1.2 inches) in length. One crystal was broken off in the middle of the specimen, but actually it broke off flush with the siderite base and is not seen when displayed as shown in the upper left photograph despite its location. The backs of the amethysts are coated with siderite. $45.00
