Pyrite Cubes (Loose, in Matrix, Penetration Twins) from Spain - The Geode Gallery

The nearly perfect cubes of pyrite from Spain, specifically from Navajun, La Rioja, in northern Spain, are very popular given their shapes.  Only a few other locations on Earth produce similar specimens but nowhere else than Spain is there such an abundance and the quality consistent over time.  Everyone asks, "Are these natural"?  The answer is YES.  All of the specimens you see below occur naturally!  The only thing that has been done to them is the dust/matrix were cleaned off and in the case of some of the matrix specimens, the cubes have been repaired (glued) into their original position in the host rock but nothing has been fabricated other than how it naturally occurred.  While repaired mineral specimens do detract from the value in most cases, this is one of the few specimen types that repairs are acceptable given the situation.

Below you will find a selection of loose cubes, penetration twins, and matrix specimens.  We acquire our pyrites DIRECT from Spain - you cannot get any more direct unless you went and collected them yourself.  The result is comparably much lower prices and consistent high quality.  If you do not see what you are looking for, please contact us as we have a large supply of all specimen types in all sizes available.

Single Loose Pyrite Cubes from Spain For Sale

Below we offer three different sizes of loose pyrite cubes for sale.  Please note - we have all sizes available from as little as 25 cents up to occasionally $40 and $50, with the change in price a DIRECT function of the size of the cube.  If you are building a graduated set of cubes from smallest to largest, and need a certain size, provide us with a precise measurement of the edge of the cube and we will let you know the price for a cube of that size.  The loose cubes below are our most popular sizes.

#SPPYR 14:  Single 2.7 cm (1.1 inches) pyrite cube positioned on top of a 9 x 7.5 cm (3.5 x 3 inches) matrix base that has white flat indentations where other pyrite cubes used to be.  $28.00

#SPPYR 15:  Three main pyrite cubes measuring 2 - 2.8 cm (0.8 - 1.1 inches) across along with at least three other smaller cubes in various locations on the specimen that measures 13 x 10 x 6 cm (5.1 x 3.9 x 2.4 inches).  Slight corner nick to cube on the base.  Displays as shown with no assistance necessary.  $45.00

#SPPYR 16:  Three cubes (measuring 1.9, 2.1, and 2.4 cm, or 0.75 to nearly 1 inch) are positioned on the top of a matrix chunk that shows evidence of numerous other cubes formerly on the specimen where the flat areas are located.  Slight contacting to the back corner of the right cube and the upper left cube looks to be repaired due to the separation between it and the middle cube.  Still, this is a very nice specimen.  Measures 11 x 7 x 7 cm overall (4.3 x 2.8 x 2.8 inches).  $30.00

#SPPYR 17:  Two 2.1-2.2 cm (0.9 inch) cubes are positioned in their host matrix along with several smaller cubes barely sticking out of the matrix - one of these is evident in the top photo at the bottom center of the matrix.  I count at least 5 small cubes barely peeking out.  Overall measures 11 x 8 x 4 cm (4.3 x 3.2 x 1.6 inches).  Does need some assistance for maximum display.  $25.00

#SPPYR 18:  Four cubes ranging in size from 1 to 2.4 cm (0.4 to nearly 1 inch) are scattered about the host matrix.  A cube was also formerly located at the top left of the specimen as the top photograph shows.  Needs no assistance for display - nice cabinet specimen.  Measures 11 x 9 x 7 cm overall (4.3 x 3.5 x 2.8 inches).  $35.00

#SPPYR 22:  Two pyrite cubes (2.2 and 1.8 cm or 0.85 x 0.75 inches, respectively) are nestled in their marl matrix.  The bottom left cube has been repaired or glued back in its original spot.  The matrix measures 11 x 5 x 2 cm (4.3 x 2 x 0.8 inches).  $22.00

#SPPYR 24:  Three cubes, two on the front and one on the back, are located on a marl matrix base.  The two front cubes measure 1.75 and 1.8 cm (0.7 inches) and the back one 1.3 cm (0.5 inches).  Specimen will sit flat for display but will need assistance to sit upright as shown in photos.  Matrix measures 12 x 9 x 3 cm overall (4.7 x 3.5 x 1.2 inches).  $25.00

#SPPYR 25:  Single 3.3 x 3.1 cm (1.3 x 1.2 inches) pyrite cube located at the top of a 14 x 7 x 7.5 cm (5.5 x 2.8 x 3 inches) matrix.  The back of the cube (see bottom photograph) is slightly naturally distorted and a small cube was attached to one corner.  These imperfections are not seen when displayed as shown in the top photo.  $40.00

Pyrite Penetration Twins

All of the following specimens are natural pyrite penetration twins.  These types of specimens are not matched for their quality scientifically and aesthetically anywhere else on Earth on a regular basis and almost define perfection in crystallography with the sharp twinning and crisp edges.  Again, these are all natural!  They have just been removed from their host matrix.
