Amethyst Geodes from Uruguay - The Geode Gallery

Undoubtedly when one thinks of amethyst, the first thought is of the large deposits of amethyst geodes and cathedrals from Brazil.  Just across the border into Uruguay, however, are additional amethyst geodes in the same rock formation as those in Brazil.  Uruguayan amethyst can be darker in color compared to its relatives in Brazil but this is only the case with the highest geode grades available.  There is a large quantity of lower quality and less colorful amethyst available as well but we do our best to avoid this material.  Our focus on this page is to provide a selection of the higher quality amethyst geodes from Uruguay in the darker colors and smaller sizes that are optimal for display in a smaller space.

#URAM 20:  Quartz (var. Amethyst) in Geode - south of Artigas, Artigas, Uruguay:  Measures 8 x 3.75 x 3 inches - $65.00 sold

 

#URAM 11:  Quartz (var. Amethyst) in Geode - south of Artigas, Artigas, Uruguay:  Measures 10 x 4 x 4 Inches - $120.00

#URAM 20:  Very hollow flat based amethyst lined Uruguayan amethyst geode half.  There are some interesting clear quartz growths in the right portion of the half as well - see bottom right closeup.  The amethyst in this geode is not quite as dark in color compared to other Uruguayan material but is still a good color.  The edges are not polished.  $65.00 sold
