All minerals on this page are from Bulgaria, Romania, or Hungary. Mining is ongoing in certain mining districts in Bulgaria and new mineral finds are available from time to time. Arguably, some of the finest galenas ever found in Bulgaria have recently been mined in the last few years. It is our understanding that all of the major mining areas in Romania are inactive and the mines are flooded. There are still Romanian specimens available as these closures have been fairly recent (in the last few years) but higher quality specimens are becoming more difficult to find and are primarily coming out of collections. Hungary has produced scattered finds but on a much smaller basis in the past few years.
SIZING: All specimens have a letter or letters after their product name below which refers to the size of the specimen. T = Thumbnail (2-3 cm or 0.8-1.2 inches); M = Miniature (3-6 cm or 1.2 to 2.4 inches); SC = Small Cabinet (6-10 cm or 2.4 to 3.9 inches), C = Cabinet (10-15 cm or 3.9 to 6 inches), and LC = Large Cabinet (15+ cm or 6 inches and larger).
